Introduction

In Daniel Chapter 7, the Lion and the Bear have been associated celestially with Leo the Lion and Ursa Major, the Great Bear. Traditional interpretations have also associated the four beasts with historical kingdoms such as Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome, respectively. However, using the celestial constellations, the first two beasts have also been correlated to the 2017 Solar Eclipse near the heart of the lion and the Comet of 2020 with three tails in the mouth of the bear. Let’s take a look at the third beast.

⁶ After this I looked, and behold, another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back. And the beast had four heads, and dominion was given to it.

The following high-level questions will be answered,

• What is like a leopard?

• Did Daniel use wordplay again?

• Who is the third beast?

Lynx?

In Daniel 7:6, Daniel describes the third beast, “like a leopard”. When I began this research in 2025, I was so certain that the Lynx constellation was the third beast. See the Lynx constellation on the Northwest horizon with the setting sun. This would make so much sense with Leo, the 1st Beast, and the Great Bear, the 2nd Beast, along with the Lynx, the 3rd Beast. All three constellations are clustered together.

Furthermore, the Lynx shown on the left is often mistaken for a spotted leopard. However, unfortunately, the Lynx is a modern constellation created by Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in 1687 AD.2 Therefore, this constellation did not exist in c600 to 500 BC at the time of Daniel. The Lynx is not one of the original 48 Mazzaroth constellations, but it is one of the 88 constellations, which includes modern constellations.3

So we need to dig deeper into Babylonian starlore, but let’s start with a word study. If Daniel used an idiom for “rib” in the second beast, what about the word “leopard”?

Leopard Word Study

“Leopard” happens to be another idiom, nem-ar, is a Chaldaism, an ancient Aramaic homonym.

In Wiktionary, the Assyrian Neo-Aramaic is nimrā, denoting leopard, panther, jaguar, and even tiger.

Etymology: Inherited from Aramaic נִמְרָא (nimrā), from Proto-Semitic *namir-; compare Arabic نَمِر (namir), Hebrew נָמֵר (namér) and Akkadian 𒊊𒌉 (nimrum).

Noun: ܢܸܡܪܵܐ • (nimrā) m (plural ܢܸܡܪܹ̈ܐ (nimrē), feminine ܢܸܡܪܬ݂ܵܐ (nimrṯā))

The noun, nimrā, and Nimrod both start with the same first four letters, “nimr”. Strong’s Concordance 5245 also corresponds to 5246, which notes the relationship to Nimrod 5248.

There is a possibility that Daniel is using another wordplay that correlates leopard and Nimrod to convey a deeper meaning - what could this be?

The origin of the name Nimrod is uncertain. Some say it is Akkadian (northern Babylonian), stemming from the god of war and hunting, Ninurta, denoting “the arrow, the mighty hero.”

In historical mythology, Nimrod’s identity as the Bible’s first “mighty hunter” was tied to the panther. According to these traditions, his name was interpreted from Chaldean/Aramaic fragments to mean “The Subduer of the Leopard” (from Nimr for leopard, and rad to subdue).7. One can conclude that the Nimrod and Nimru relationship was known in Babylon, where Daniel resided.

How would a leopard and Nimrod be related celestially?

Nimrod and Orion

One of the most recognized constellations, next to the Big Dipper, is Orion (Job 9:9, 38:31). The familiar constellation is visible as a large rectangle with three slanted stars for the belt and three vertical stars for the sword attached to the belt. There is a red star, like a ruby, in the sword. Orion is a hunter carrying the body or pelt of a big cat, a lioness, leopard, jaguar, or panther.

Pictured to the right is an AI rendering of Nimrod standing before the Tower of Babel. He is a hunter, wearing a leopard pelt. “The Subduer of the Leopard” has a tamed leopard at his side, along with four canines ready for the hunt. He was a fierce aggressor, a warrior-king, and had a passion for the chase. Nimrod was known as a mighty hunter, and legend says he learned to tame big cats. Thus, we show Nimrod as the leopard tamer.

Scholars have associated Nimrod with Orion. The Jewish Encyclopedia states,

The Aramaic and Syriac names of Orion have been connected with the ancient Oriental tradition that Nimrod, who is called in the Bible a hero and mighty hunter, was fettered by God for his obstinacy in building the tower of Babel, and was set in the sky (Winer, "B. R." ii. 157). It is possible that the ancient Hebrews saw in this constellation the figure of a man who was naturally regarded as extraordinarily tall and strong, exactly as the Greeks named it "Orion,"… (Schiaparelli, l.c.).8

The McClintock and Strong Biblical Cyclopedia also references similar text that,

…the constellation of the Giant — that is, Orion (q.v.) — was named from Nimrod; and some have identified Nimrod with the Greek Orion (comp. Movers, Phon. p. 471; Baur, Amos, p. 351), who was also a giant (Odys. 11:309 sq.; comp. II. 18:486, σθένος ᾿Ωρίωνος; Hesiod, Works and 'Days, 580, Pliny, 7:16) and a mighty hunter (Odys. 11:574). The Hebrew kesil' (כּסַיל.) is rendered Orion (Isa 13:10; Job 38:31) by the Syriac and the Sept. The word means a fool, an impious person, applied naturally to a proud blasphemer; and the chains or "bands of Orion" (Job 38:31) may be explained in the same way (see Michael. Spicel. 1:209 sq.; Suppl. p. 1319 sq.; comp. Gesen. Comment. on Isaiah 1:458 sq.).9

Nimrod was tall like Orion, and a proud fool who did not have respect for God and blasphemed the God of Heaven and Earth.

The Lexham Bible Dictionary describes Nimrod,

According to Philo of Alexandria, Nimrod’s ancestors epitomize “evil and spiritual unproductiveness,” which can only result in giants (van der Horst, “Nimrod after the Bible,” 221–22). Later in the Jewish legends (Hag. 13a; Pesahim 94b) Nimrod is described as the archetypal evil king who made all the people rebel against God (Hamilton, Genesis, 338). He is also noted as the builder of the tower of Babel and the enemy of Abraham (Ginzberg, Legends of the Jews, 175–81).10

God was displeased with Nimrod and his followers, and He confused their language, and thus the nations were created. Nimrod’s Tower of Babel wasn’t completed and was left to crumble, while the people were dispersed throughout the Earth.

Some scholars believe Nimrod was just a tyrannical king. However, others believe that

…Nimrod might have been one of the giants of Genesis 6” (van der Horst, Nimrod after the Bible, 222).11

Nelson’s New Illustrated Bible Dictionary calls out that Nimrod was the son of Cush and grandson of Ham. This implies he lived after the Great Flood, which drowned all the Nephilim. Dr. Wyatt Graham, the Academic Dean of Carey Theological College, proposes the following Nimrod theory on Logos,

Additionally, Genesis 10:9 recasts Nimrod into the image of the mighty men of old, those identified as Nephilim, in the antediluvian age (Gen 6:4). The adjective “mighty” (גִּבּוֹר) is the same word that describes the Nephilim in Genesis 6:4—“the mighty men.” In ancient Greek translations, usually called the Septuagint (LXX), Nimrod is called a “giant” just as the Nephilim are in Genesis 6:4. If we grant this connection, then the description of Nimrod as a “mighty hunter” may take a more sinister tone. Was Nimrod like the Nephilim of old, those mighty men who led to the flood of the earth? And, if so, might the word “mighty” take a negative connotation, as it does in Isaiah 49:25, where it means “tyrant”? If so, the act of hunting may very well represent acts of evil.12

If Nimrod was a giant, another theory is that the giant mutation made it through Noah’s lineage, giants somehow survived the flood, or there was a second incursion of the sons of God. These theories may also explain Goliath, the giant, centuries later.

In Genesis 10:10, Nimrod’s kingdom included the cities of Babel (where the Tower of Babel was built) in the land of Shinar. Then in Assyria, he built Nineveh, which was visited by Jonah centuries later to preach, and the Ninevites repented (See The Signs of Jonah).

Dr. Graham concludes,

Nimrod becomes a link between the antediluvian world’s “mighty men” and the postdiluvian’s. Despite the flood, “great ones” still exist.

Nimrod shows how the story of the two seeds (see Gen 3:15) plays out in a postdiluvian world. We learn that it is not biology but sin and rebellion that places one on the side of the seed of the serpent.13

Nimrod, Orion, the leopard tamer, ultimately portrays the archetype of a rebellious and prideful ruler who wanted God to descend to his creation of the Tower of Babel, uniting all people under his tyrannical control. Nimrod is tied to the seed of the serpent who will bruise the Seed of the Woman from Genesis 3:15.

Emmaus Road Ministries' founder Susan, a Bible researcher and teacher, sums it up nicely: the Tower of Babel was not necessarily built to reach the Heavens, but to corrupt the Signs in Heaven. Nimrod wanted to change the Mazzaroth from the Gospel Story as intended by God, but to worship the creation, to harness the powers of giants, the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, demons, and worship the constellations as demonic gods.14

God’s Wrath put a stop to the Tower of Babel; however, the worship of demonic gods continues to this day. The spirit of Nimrod continues in our modern international organizations that seek obedience from all tongues, tribes, and nations. Some rulers follow the occult in elite circles to worship Satan for global domination. It is a spiritual war in the unseen realm, and our battle is not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6).

In Closing

The mainstream interpretation of the third beast is Greece and Alexander the Great’s empire15. However, as with the first and second beasts, the mainstream interpretation looks at Daniel’s vision as historical and earthbound. It doesn’t look at it through Signs in Heaven, that point to our current era. It does not interpret the vision through the dual meanings of ancient idioms that figuratively allude to a deeper supernatural unseen realm.

I believe Daniel’s Chapter 7 vision was profoundly about the end times. The Comet of 2020 in the mouth of the Great Bear is not a coincidence.

The wordplay between Nimrod and Nimru, the panther, is relevant to today. Nimrod’s goal to build the Tower of Babel is significant, as he was trying to go against God and control the people, as well as corrupt the Gospel in the Stars and use it to worship demons. God forced the confusion of languages to form the Table of Nations. The spirit of Nimrod continues to this day to reverse this directive, to bring the nations back under the power of a single governing body, under the Beasts, under the compliance and mandates of Satan, the fiery red dragon. Today, the Nimrod spirit can be equated with the tyrannical globalist agenda, which we experienced in 2020 and beyond.

  • The Lynx constellation was created in the 16th century, which disqualifies it from being the constellation referred to by Daniel. However, there is another constellation “like a leopard” to be covered in the next article. This big cat is found in the oldest book of Babylonian starlore.

  • This evil, abusive global king or kingdom is given temporal dominion, authority, and power to move swiftly “like a leopard” from nation to nation, fiercely hunting, killing, and seeking compliance through any means.

  • Note also in Revelation 13, the Beast of the Sea also has the body of a leopard, the paws of the bear, and the teeth of the lion.

  • Is there another big cat in the Heavens with wings and four heads? The MUL.APIN has a panther that will be covered in the next article.

Introduction

This article will focus on Chapter 7 and the second beast, which has been correlated to Ursa Major, the Great Bear in the previous analysis. Various translations of rib include tusk, fang, or rows of teeth, which at first are confusing.

This is because the “rib”, is a Chaldaism, an ancient Aramaic idiom, which has dual meanings, “to ascend” and “rib”. The Sumerian “TI” pictogram symbol also means “rib, arrow, and life”, alluding to the Genesis story of Adam’s rib.

Celestially, in context to Leo and Ursa Major, a comet would ascend and look like a rib or arrow. The “Comet of 2020”, C/2020 F3 NEOWISE, happens to cross through the mouth of the bear in July 2020. This article will also look at what happened on Earth in 2020, the same year the Four Horsemen began their ride.

Daniel also states there are three ribs. Let’s reference the English Standard Version (ESV),

And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear. It was raised up on one side. It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’

Strong’s Concordance #8532 is תְּלָת t^elâth (Chald.), tel-awth, denotes “three” or “third”2. Note that #8532 is also a Chaldaism or idiom, which is a figurative expression.

Traditional interpretations say the ribs represent conquered kingdoms but maybe Daniel is describing something else in his vision - a third comet or a comet with three tails?

• What other comets were discovered and anticipated?

• What was special about Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE?

• What happened on July 19th, 2020 on Earth?

How Special is the Comet of 2020?

Pete Lawrence, from Sky and Night Magazine wrote in an article, “What made Comet NEOWISE so special?”,

F3 Neowise is one of those rare comets that did the opposite and actually got better as it passed perihelion, brightening and putting on something of a show…

F3 Neowise tracks below the Plough [the Big Dipper, Ursa Major, the Great Bear] during the last half of July and this famous asterism can be put to good use in order to find it. By looking at the chart below, it’s possible to estimate where the comet will be in relation to the Plough, and to use sections of the pattern as a cosmic ruler.

Compared to the expanding fan-shaped dust tail, the ion tail is very thin and very straight. In the case of F3 Neowise at the time of writing (mid-July) the ion tail is present but much fainter than the dust tail.3

In the following sections let’s begin looking at the probability of this celestial event. Then further analyze Daniel’s reference to three ribs, which may be describing the tail of the comet.

What is the Probability?

In its name, “NEO”, means Near Earth Object, while “WISE” is the name of the telescope that discovered it. Coded in the name “C/2020 F3”, the “3” tells observers that it was the 3rd comet discovered in a half month period. The “2020” and “F” indicates it was discovered in the later half of March 2020. The “C” specifies that it is not a periodic comet and has an extremely long multi-thousand year period. In this case it has been estimated to be about 6800 years.

This is already rare, yet it passes through Ursa Major’s mouth which is shown below using a screenshot of Stellarium the night of July 19th, 2020. The cross hairs in red shows the location of the comet’s head while its tail is shown in the photograph on the left. As the comet moves up it also brightens and its tail will move up and to the right into the mouth of the bear.

What is the probability of this occurring? Ursa Major is not one of the 12 major constellations. The Great Bear is 1 of 48 total constellations in the Mazzaroth.

Third vs. Three

In Daniel 7:5, the word for three, tel-awth, could also have been interpreted as “third”. C/2020 F3 was the third comet discovered in the 2nd half of March 2020. However, it doesn’t seem like this fits Daniel’s vision.

Furthermore, Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE was the third anticipated long-period comet of 2020. Unfortunately, Both Comet C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) and Comet C/2020 F8 (SWAN) fragmented, fizzled and faded away.4 Fortunately, Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) delighted astronomers and sky watchers. This leaves us with the question on what was so special about F3 NEOWISE that could correlate to the number three in Daniel’s vision?

The Triple Tail of Comet NEOWISE: A Rare Cosmic Trifecta

When Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) illuminated the night skies in July 2020, it gave scientists a rare glimpse at a structural phenomenon: a triple tail.

While most bright comets sprout a twin-tail system when they approach the sun, highly sensitive astrophotography and spectroscopic instruments revealed that NEOWISE possessed three structurally and chemically unique appendages like three ribs.

Here is a breakdown of the three tails that made Comet NEOWISE an unforgettable cosmic anomaly:

1. The Dust Tail (Golden-White) - The most visible, broad, and curved component of the comet, which sweeps through the sky like a broom.

2. The Ion Tail (Electric Blue) - A thin, razor-straight, and highly turbulent stream like a spiraling arrow.

3. The Sodium Tail (Faint Red) - A rare, ghostly third tail sandwiched between the dust and ion tails like hot steam from a boiling pot.5,6

Could these three tails be the vision of three ribs? All three are in the mouth of the Great Bear on July 19th, 2020.

Earlier we calculated the probability of Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE entering the mouth of Ursa Major. Most comets have 1 to 2 tails and a third distinct tail is very rare. Let’s estimate a three-tailed comet to be 1 out of 100.

As probability approaches 0, it implies that this sign is extremely rare, or mathematically impossible. There is a one in 33 Million chance that this sign could occur, especially in our lifetime.

Now let’s look at what happened the very next day on Earth.

The Mid-2020 Pivot: Inside the WHO’s July 20 Briefing

On July 20, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) confronted a critical inflection point in the COVID-19 pandemic as global cases surpassed 14.3 million (World Health Organization 2020)7. The WHO reported deaths of ~600k. The briefing shifted focus from emergency lockdowns to sustainable, long-term global management.

The WHO released a critical framework for reopening borders. Instead of blanket travel bans, they urged nations to adopt a data-driven approach: Prioritize local risk assessments over total isolation, scale up border surveillance and contact tracing, and implement targeted quarantines based on regional case numbers.

The WHO then announced two dozen injection candidates were in trial. 8, 9

They did not report that injection trials were resulting in serious injury and death.10 The WHO acknowledged airborne risks, but did not reveal the gain-of-function lab origins.

“Arise, Devour Much Flesh”

Remember the dual meanings for “rib and to arise” as well as the correlation to “rib, arrow and life”, where words potentially had a deeper meaning. The figurative meanings of these words seem to bridge much of the research between the Book of Daniel, Revelation, and ancient mythology.

Remember, the arrow was the most effective delivery mechanism in ancient cultures of snake venom as a toxin. The Signs of the Four Horsemen introduced Sagittarius, The First Horseman, who carried a bow, which denotes in Greek toxon, rooted in the origins of the snake venom used to poison arrow tips. Also, in Greek Mythology, the god Apollo, fired arrows carrying plagues upon mankind.

On July 20th, 2020, the fear campaign was escalated with the hope of a solution through trials of an injection. However, it was a false hope as many discovered and are still discovering.

Daniel saw that the beast like a bear was told to do the following.

and it [the beast like a bear] was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’

Daniel 7:5, ESV

In Daniel 7:5, devour denotes devastate. Flesh denotes bodies or mankind (Daniel 2:11).

devour, of beast in vision, Daniel 7:5 (accusative of thing), absolute Daniel 7:7; Daniel 7:19; hence figurative of kingdom, devour, devastate, Daniel 7:23 (accusative of earth).11

Daniel 7:5 flesh (as devoured by beast); emphatic בְּשְׂרָא Daniel 2:11 flesh = mankind12

The beast was commanded to devastate mankind. It destroyed, devoured, and depopulated life through biological warfare.

In Closing

The three ribs may be correlated to the three tails of the comet.

• What other comets were discovered and anticipated?

  • Comet C/2020 F3 means it was the 3rd comet discovered in the 2nd half of March 2020, but this 3 does not seem to match the vision.

  • Two other long period comets were discovered but faded leaving C/2020 F3 as the third long period comet of 2020. However, the other two comets were not in Ursa Major.

• What was special about Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE?

  • There were three tails of the comet. Three distinct colors of red, white, and blue with three different shapes.

  • All passed through the teeth of the Great Bear - a “one in 33 Million” chance of occurring

• What happened on July 19th, 2020 on Earth?

  • The very next day on July 20th, 2020 the WHO issued a COVID-19 Situation report.

  • Deaths and case counts were highlighted, while 12 injection candidates were in trial.

This sign has become so profound in its interpretation that it doesn’t seem possible. Only the Creator God has the omnipotence to give Daniel a vision of the future.

This is only the second beast of four total in Chapter 7 that would have made Daniel anxious and alarmed. Not many things seemed to alarm Daniel. I believe Daniel understood the future sign could mean the potential devastation of mankind.

Pray for discernment and get right with Jesus. Do not comply with the beast(s).

Next, the beast like a leopard…

And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear.

It was raised up on one side.

It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’ (Daniel 7:5, ESV) [emphasis added]

Daniel’s vision paints the picture of a hungry bear with ribs in its teeth.

The popular Alone TV series, Season 11, Episode 71, showed a video clip of a grizzly bear dragging off the frozen carcass of a moose by its rib cage. This image flashed through my mind when camping at night in the mountains and looking up at the constellations. I kept the bear spray close in case I suddenly turned the corner to see a bear cub and its protective mother bear nearby.

But let’s look closer at Daniel’s vision.

Traditional Interpretation

The New English Translation (NET) is very similar to the ESV translation,

7:5 “Then a second beast appeared, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and there were three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and devour much flesh!’ Daniel 7:5, NET2

Is there some significance to ribs being in the mouth of the bear?

The New English Translation (NET) Bible was created by 25 biblical scholars and updated in 2019. Its defining feature is transparency; it includes over 60,000 translators' notes that explain translation decisions, analyze ancient texts, and provide cultural context.3 The NET has the following footnote for rib.

The three ribs held securely in the mouth of the bear, perhaps representing Media-Persia, apparently symbolize military conquest, but the exact identity of the “ribs” is not clear. Possibly it is a reference to the Persian conquest of Lydia, Egypt, and Babylonia.4

The prophetic horizon of this note provides a historic interpretation. A Persian empire conquest is the pre-2020 interpretation. The futurist interpretation which has an AD prophetic horizon is where the Bear has been associated to Russia (See Part 1).

Scholars in various commentaries believe the ribs may have to do with conquered kings and kingdoms, but Daniel does not explicitly interpret what these ribs mean in the text, therefore, we cannot be certain of the interpretations made prior to 2020.

Building upon the previous Leo and Ursa Major research, there is a possibility that Daniel may be describing a celestial sign in Heaven, a comet, in fact the “Comet of 2020”, to be revealed later.

Other Translations of Daniel 7:5

Let’s first compare and contrast the KJV, LEB, Tanakh Bible (Judaism), and Douay–Rheims Bible (Latin Vulgate) translations to get a better understanding of Daniel’s vision of the bear and what was in its mouth.

and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh. Daniel 7:5, KJV [emphasis added]

and three tusks were in its mouth between its teeth, and so it was told, “Arise, eat much flesh!”_. Daniel 7:5, Lexham English Bible (LEB) [emphasis added]

and with three fangs in its mouth among its teeth; it was told, ‘Arise, eat much meat! Daniel 7:5, Tanakh [emphasis added]

and there were three rows in the mouth thereof, and in the teeth thereof, and thus they said to it: Arise, devour much flesh. Douay–Rheims Bible (DRA) 1899 [emphasis added]

Notice the different translations of the word, עֲלַע, al-ah, interpreted as ribs, as well as tusks, fangs, and rows.

One starts to picture a prehistoric bear with Sabertooth “tusks”, elongated “fangs”, or a shark-like mouth with multiple rows of teeth - taken literally.

It seems apparent due to interpretative variations across KJV, LEB, Tanakh, and DRA, that this was a challenging translation of a cryptic word.

Could the word figuratively be associated with a shape, a curved object or some ancient idiom?

Possibly - in the word study I will attempt to break it down.

Rib Word Study

Let’s look at the original word for rib, עֲלַע ʿălaʿ, which is only used once in the entire Bible.

See Strong’s Concordance #5967. עֲלַע ʿălaʿ (Chaldaism, Chaldee), al-ah’, is the word found in the Book of Daniel.

Chaldaism refers to an idiom, phrase, or linguistic peculiarity of the Chaldee language.

Chaldee is an old name for Aramaic, while Chaldaism is a linguistic term for Aramaic idioms. They are the older, historical names used for the exact same language family.5

Biblehub.com defines #5967 as “ala: To ascend, to go up, to rise” and then defines the word as “rib” as well.6 Thus, ala has dual meanings: to rise and rib.

The origins of the word #5967 are Aramaic, an ancient language, corresponding to #6763; a rib, the same word used in Genesis.7 It should be reiterated that the word #5967 used in the Book of Daniel for rib is not the same word used in Genesis for Adam’s rib, #6763. However, they are related in Strong’s Concordance.

5967. עֲלַע ʿălaʿ (Chald.), al-ah´; corresp. to 6763; a rib:—rib.8

Drilling into #6763 provides more details on the Hebrew word used in the Genesis Creation story of Adam’s rib.

6763. צֵלָע tsêlaʿ, tsay-law´; or (fem.) צַלְעָה tsalʿâh, tsal-aw´; from 6760; a rib (as curved), literal (of the body) or figurative (of a door, i.e. leaf); hence a side, literal (of a person) or figuratively (of an object or the sky, i.e. quarter); arch. a (espec. floor or ceiling) timber or plank (single or collect., i.e. a flooring):—beam, board, chamber, corner, leaf, plank, rib, side (chamber).9

6760. צָלַע tsâlaʿ, tsaw-lah´; a prim. root; prob. to curve; used only as denom. from 6763, to limp (as if one-sided):—halt.10

To summarize,

1. Strong’s 5967 used by Daniel for rib, denotes to ascend, to go up, to arise and is an idiom not to be taken literally.

2. 5967 corresponds to 6763 used by Moses in Genesis for rib.

3. 6763 is from 6760; a rib (as curved)… or figuratively an object or the sky.

4. And 6760 is a primitive root, probably having to do with something that curves.

Could this “rib” be something in the sky that figuratively is curved and ascending?

Possibly - based upon the meandering figurative definitions of the word #5967. עֲלַע ʿălaʿ (Chaldaism, Chaldee), where Chaldaism is defined as an idiom… 🤔💭

📚Polysemy and Wordplay in Mesopotamia

Daniel, being the chief prefect in Babylon may have used wordplay in his description of visions or polysemy. Mesopotamia cuneiform study reveals the

… term “hidden words” (amāt niṣirti) refers to polysemy, i.e. “multiple meanings in a word or phrase”, and can be equated with the modern notion of wordplay, double entendre, or punning. 11

…cuneiform literature indicates that puns served a far more solemn role - as conduits through which divine truth was imparted.

McHugh quotes Scott Bryon Noegel, Professor of Biblical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of Washington in Seattle,

“We tend to think of puns as a literary device - a sign of humour, rhetoric …

In antiquity, puns were not used in that way, because the conception of words was so different. Writing was considered of divine origin… Puns provided diviners with interpretative strategies… Perhaps because the written word evolved from pictographs in Mesopotamia, words were considered the embodiment of the object or idea they represented.12

To fully understand Daniel’s vision, we need to understand that the words he uses in the Book of Daniel, such as “rib” may actually be an intended interpretive idiom.

Here is a Mesopotamian character that bridges rib with Creation and arrow, TI.

📚Rebus Principle: Rib = Arrow = Life

Some linguists believe that the Chinese developed their writing system according to the Rebus Principle, and Egyptian hieroglyphs used a similar system.

In modern times, Emojis are an example of the Rebus Principle replacing words or phrases with a picture 🤯.13

In the same way, the Mesopotamian characters in clay tablets also used this Rebus principle. Below is shown the TI, which appears throughout the MUL.APIN.

The TI is a classic example of the Rebus Principle in early writing systems, where the meaning of a pictogram is extended to all of its homonyms.15. This specific example comes directly from the ancient Sumerian language and their cuneiform script:

• The Pictogram: Sumerians initially drew a picture of an arrow to literally represent the word for “arrow”.

• The Homonyms: In Sumerian, the words for “arrow,” “rib,” and “life” were all pronounced alike as TI.

• Abstract Meaning: Because drawing abstract concepts like “life” is difficult, scribes extended the arrow symbol to mean all three words16

Thus when TI was used, it not only represented an arrow, but tied the rib to creating life, as in Genesis.

📚Genesis Story Parallels - Rib and Life WordPlay

Asko Parpola, Professor emeritus of Indology at the University of Helsinki, posts in the blog titled, “The Principle of Picture Puzzles”,

…in the Sumerian script the picture of arrow meant ‘arrow’ as well as ‘life’ and ‘rib,’ because all three words were pronounced alike in the Sumerian language: ti . Homophonies like this have often given rise to etiological myths. Thus the identity of the Sumerian words for ‘life’ and ‘rib’ is behind that part of the Sumerian paradise myth in which the goddess Nin-ti ‘Mistress of Life’ heals the rib of the sick god Enki.17

The Sumerian mythology parallels the Genesis Story.

²² And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Genesis 2:22, ESV18

²⁰ The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Genesis 3:20, ESV19

ESV has a footnote: Eve sounds like the Hebrew for life-giver and resembles the word for living20

Daniel had access to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible and understood the Genesis rib to life storyline (Genesis 2:22), while as chief prefect he would also understand the scholarly material being taught and understood the TI: arrow to rib to life association.

💫A Comet

The following diagram tries to correlate the data points; we know from Daniel 7:5 that there is variability with the translation of עֲלַע ʿălaʿ to rib, tusk, and fang, which are all curved objects made of bone 🦴. Ancient cultures have described comets using brooms, beards, hair, boiling pots, snakes, swords, scepters, horns, and heavenly arrows - so a rib is not a stretch.

To summarize,

• the TI pictogram has dual meanings, with arrow, rib and life

• עֲלַע ʿălaʿ has dual meanings with ascend, rib, sky, and curved - essentially a polysemy.

Let’s look at the Comet of 2020.

Where did it ascend into? 🐻

💫Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE

The name of the comet was C/2020 F3 NEOWISE discovered in March 2020. In the month of July 2020, it became very bright and it was named “Comet of 2020”.

The Comet of 2020 was closest to the Earth and therefore brightest in the sky on July 22nd. C/2020 F3 NEOWISE was the brightest comet since Comet Hale-Bopp back in 1997 and, similarly, NEOWISE was a long period comet and will not visit Earth for another ~6700 years.

Notice in the photo, a graphic highlights the comet position night after night, moving from July 14th, 2020 to July 19th, 2020. It would ascend each night along the dotted line until it was in the jaws of the 🐻Great Bear, like a “⬆️rising 🦴rib” 💫.

What is the Mazzaroth?

Simply the Hebrew word for constellations which is found in the Book of Job.

31 “Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion?

God created the Heavens and orchestrates the constellations for signs and seasons like an incredible symphony. Each instrument is timed to come in at the exact measure at the correct tempo.

Why Track the Signs?

For investigators and believers, decoding these heavenly markers is never about predicting exact calendar dates or “date setting”. Instead, the study serves to:

• Build Faith: Provide tangible, astronomical evidence that counters secular skepticism and validates the historical accuracy of the Gospels.

• Equip the Church: Encourage believers to remain spiritually alert, vigilant, and active in sharing the Gospel without fear.

• Demonstrate Design: Show that the movements of the luminaries are perfectly synchronized with Biblical history, proving an omnipotent Creator is in control.

How Has it Changed Lives?

Story 1: New Lens

In a recent small group, I had attendees state,

“This rings true” - regarding the Signs in Heaven and the Mazzaroth

“Once you see it - you cannot unsee it.”

Story 2: Understanding

In a recent small group, a new couple came into the room. I introduced them to the concepts of Biblical Astronomy, the Mazzaroth, and the Signs in Heaven.

The wife responded with tears and wonder, “It explains why we went through so much since 2020. How many people know about this? This has motivated me to read the Bible more.”

Story 3: Faith

Many buy these books for their family member who are struggling in their faith. My intent in writing these books was to help strengthen the faith of those who may have some doubt about Jesus, God of Heaven and Earth. I had to go through the research journey myself, and with each of the Signs in Heaven, I tried to correlate the Scripture with software and statistics.

Being an engineer by trade, I was also a “Doubting Thomas”, who would question Creation and believe that the Book of Revelation was merely symbolic.

Now my faith has never been stronger. The Signs in Heaven, revolving around a stationary polestar, showcase His handiwork. Our God is the Alpha and Omega, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. The Revelation of Jesus Christ has given us the signs, and Jesus is coming back soon. We do not know the day or hour, but we remain alert.

I hope you will also agree after reading these books that it is mathematically impossible for these Signs in Heaven to be just a coincidence.

Story 4: Peace

One of my small group members passed away from an aggressive illness in 2025. It happened in less than a month. I learned, after being invited by his wife to his Celebration of Life, that his nurses were amazed by how at peace he was.

Introduction

⁴⁸ Then the king gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

Daniel’s supernatural gifts impressed multiple kings and he was made chief prefect.

What is a chief prefect?

A governor or leader of the empire's scholarly, religious, and administrative advisors including all the astronomers and astrologers of Babylon. This included the Chaldeans and those who tracked and cataloged the stars. Daniel, through the Chaldeans, would have been familiar with the MUL.APIN Astronomy Book, the oldest astronomy clay tablets dated to c1000 BC.

This and other resources will be leveraged to provide an ancient context to Daniel’s vision of beasts, which in turn will be unpacked and applied to the Signs In Heaven prophetic interpretation.

I hope this will help readers and researchers “turn on a light bulb” to end-times prophecy, to help build up faith in the Holy Scriptures and the Revelation of Jesus Christ as the Alpha and Omega, God of Heaven and Earth.

The research in this series seeks to investigate the Beasts in Daniel’s visions. In the Book of Daniel, Chapters 7 and 8, there are six beasts. This article will focus on Chapter 7 and the second beast.

• What is the second beast?

• Is there a corresponding sign in Heaven?

• What celestial events occurred?

“Like A Bear” Interpretations

Daniel 7:5 begins with,

And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear.

In Daniel’s vision, this beast is separate and different from the first beast, the lion with eagles’ wings. This second beast is like a bear.

First let’s briefly summarize commentaries, and what they say about this bear. Traditional interpretations have associated the bear with the Media-Persian Empire (4th to 6th century BC). The bear has also been associated with modern-day Russia. Both theories interpret the vision using different prophetic horizons. The BC horizon dates the prophecy to the empire that conquers the Babylonian empire which is Media-Persia, thus taking a historical view. The AD horizon dates the prophecy to modern day events, leading some to the current wars such as Russia and Ukraine, which takes a futurist view. Both horizons seem to fit the image and interpretation of the bear, however, let us continue to dig further.

Daniel’s description gives us more clues:

It was raised up on one side.

It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’ (Daniel 7:5, ESV)

Prophecy scholars debate the meaning of the bear with “three ribs” in its mouth. I came across many variations in the theory, but most focused on Media, Media-Persia, or Russia as the kingdoms that conquered three other kings or kingdoms, symbolized by the three ribs.

“Raised up on one side” was linked to the size of Media being larger than Persia at its height in power. Persia eventually emerged as the dominant power following the fall of the Median Empire. Today, the region includes modern-day Iran, also in the headlines.

Are there more interpretations to the bear other than Earth bound historicist or futurist views?

Is there a correlation between the bear and a constellation or sign?

The Book of Job: Mother Bear and Cub

To understand Daniel’s vision of the bear, let’s see if there is Biblical evidence and understanding of a bear constellation. A bear is referred to in the oldest book of the Bible, Job. Let’s take a look at two primary passages.

Arcturus or Bear, depending upon the translation, is mentioned in Job 9:7-9 and Job 38:31-33 (Hebrew Bible / Old Testament). Both passages pair the Bear with other constellations as part of God’s challenge to Job about controlling the Heavens. Here is Job 38:31-33, where God challenges Job on “who can lead forth the Mazzaroth?".

³¹ “Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades

or loose the cords of Orion?

³² Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season,

or can you guide the Bear with its children?

³³ Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?

Can you establish their rule on the earth?

Job 38:31–33, ESV3

In Job 38:32, God challenges Job on whether he can lead forth the Mazzaroth or guide the Bear and its children or cubs. I believe the Bear here is Ursa Major and the children or at least one of them is the cub, Ursa Minor. The mother Bear is guiding its cub night after night as it circles the tail of the cub. And the cub follows the mother’s tail. At the tip of the cub’s tail is the star Polaris, which is where all the constellations revolve around, night after night.

Back to the the Great Bear: In context to Job 38, verses 31 to 33, the signs in Heaven include Pleiades in Taurus, and Orion - all are Signs in Heaven.

Verse 33 then closes the series of Signs with a challenge to Job on whether he knows the ordinances of the Heavens, denoting laws, measures, and set times of the Heavens.4 Only God can set these Signs in Heaven into motion, which establish their rule on Earth. All are rotating around Polaris. All together they help us measure minutes, hours, days, months, seasons, and years.

In Job 9:7–9,

⁷ who commands the sun, and it does not rise;

who seals up the stars;

⁸ who alone stretched out the heavens

and trampled the waves of the sea;

⁹ who made the Bear and Orion,

the Pleiades and the chambers of the south;

Job 9:7–9, ESV5

It becomes clear that God is speaking about the constellations in the Heavens, which He created. However, did Daniel have this understanding as a teenager before he was brought to Babylon? There is no way to know for sure, however we know that he was selected because he was well educated in the areas of science.

³ Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and of the nobility, ⁴ youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king’s palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.

“and cunning in knowledge, and understanding ^kscience”.

Daniel 1:4, KJV7

Thus we can assume Daniel understood the constellation of the Great Bear in the Heavens as it was mentioned in the Book of Job, the oldest book of the Bible. He was also taught the knowledge of the Chaldeans, who tracked the stars in the Heavens. The Chaldeans would have understood the MUL.APIN Astronomy Book, the oldest astronomy clay tablets dated to c1000 BC.

However, why did the Book of Job ESV use Bear, and KJV use Arcturus?

Bear or Arcturus Interpretations

In different translations such as the King James Version (KJV), Arcturus is listed.

³² Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season?

Or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Job 38:32, KJV

⁹ Which maketh ^jArcturus, Orion,

And Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

Job 9:9, KJV8

Arcturus is a star in Bootes and the Bear is Ursa Major the constellation. The Book of Job was originally written in ancient Hebrew with some Aramaic. The word for Bear or Arcturus is defined in Strong’s Concordance 5906

5906. עַיִשׁ ʿAyish, ah´-yish; or עָשׁ ʿÂsh, awsh; from 5789; the constellation of the Great Bear (perhaps from its migration through the heavens):—Arcturus.9

Thus, A Concise Dictionary of the Words in the Greek Testament and The Hebrew Bible gives a direct correlation to Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and then adds Arcturus, the star. The Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia provides more insight and adds to the confusion in the definition of Arcturus by adding another star.

ARCTURUS. A large bright star or constellation referred to in Job 9:9; 38:32, KJV. RSV translates the Heb. word as the “Bear.” The precise modern equivalent is not known, although either the constellation of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, or of Aldebaran is a possible reference.10 (emphasis added)

The Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia says it is either a bright star or a constellation, then adds in Aldebaran, a star. However, Aldebaran is in Taurus. Earlier we saw in the dawn screenshot that Taurus is relatively far away from the Great Bear. This part of the Wycliffe definition does not make sense from a Mazzaroth perspective as it is in a different part of the sky.

What about from a language perspective?

Bear in Greek is árktos (Revelation 13:2 describes the Beast of the Sea) denoting a bear “obstructing in ferocity”11. This may be where Arcturus worked its way into the KJV translation. English Standard Version (ESV) translators interpret it as Bear for Ursa Major, versus Arcturus the star. However, is their ancient mythology or tradition that links Arcturus to Ursa Major? Yes there is.

Arcturus the Bear Watcher, Wagon, or Farmer and Plow

D. Johnson posts “Meet Arcturus: Guardian of the Bear” on Sky and Telescope. Arcturus has a Greek origin and there are some translations which define it as:

“guardian of the bear,” “bear follower,” “keeper of the bear,” and others. All of these imply the same basic fact: Arcturus “chases” Ursa Major around the sky.12

When looking at the star Arcturus in Bootes and the constellation Ursa Major, one can now see the full storyboard. Bootes is following Ursa Major as it guides Ursa Minor night after night around the polestar.

In Gavin White’s 2007 book, Babylonian Star-lore, An Illustrated Guide to the Star-lore and Constellations of Ancient Babylonia, there is no bear or cub, however, note a ‘Wagon” and smaller “Wagon of Heaven” in the center cross hairs of the planisphere. This is the northern polestar. The Wagons in Babylonian star-lore were analogous to the Big and Little Dippers. Notice also the “plough” in the drawing.

Furthermore, Sky and Telescope elaborates,

…an alternate set of views depicts the Big Dipper section of Ursa Major as a plow — a common concept in the UK, for example. Mythology has a nice connection between Arcturus for that view as well. The star’s constellation, Boötes is the Herdsman — a farmer, in other words. In this case, Boötes the Herdsman becomes the man driving the plow. Presumably, oxen pull the plow but alas, we’re left to imagine that ourselves.

The concept of Arcturus “following” or “tending” the Big Dipper is widespread throughout the mythology of multiple cultures because Arcturus is close to the Big Dipper.14

So we have a plow, a wagon, and a bear as a mashup in Heaven. Astroshop.eu has a good summary that further dates the bear to Homer.

Historically, however, the Big Dipper actually came into existence before Ursa Major. The Sumerian word MAR.GID.DA (meaning “pull the chariot”) can be found in the astronomical compendium MUL.APIN, which dates back to the Middle Babylonian period and was compiled around the year 1000 BC.

In Homer's epic the Odyssey, which appeared around 700 BC, the bear finally appears in the western night sky. On his ten-year journey, Odysseus used the stars to navigate, always keeping "the bear whom others call the wagon" to his left.15 (emphasis added)

Homer (c700 BC) pre-dates Daniel (c605 BC) by approximately 100 years. Daniel becomes the bridge between the ancient Hebrew understanding of the Bear from the Book of Job (c2200 and 1700 B.C., around the same era as Abraham and Isaac)16, and the Wagon in Babylonian star-lore (c1000 BC). Therefore, the Book of Job’s understanding of the Great Bear constellation may pre-date the MUL.APIN Astronomy Book and Homer anchoring the sign of the Bear very close to Noah’s Flood.

Let’s review:

The hypothesis that Daniel’s vision includes the Big Dipper “holds water” as the Great Bear.

Daniel’s vision of a bear doesn’t stop there. There is more to interpret - what is in its mouth?

  • However, there is another sign that travels through the mouth of the bear - stay tuned for the "Great Comet of 2020."

Introduction

The research in this series seeks to investigate the Beasts in Daniel’s visions. In the Book of Daniel, Chapters 7 and 8, there are six beasts. This article will focus on Chapter 7 and the first beast.

• What were the four winds and the great sea in Chapter 7?

• What does the first beast symbolize?

• Is there a corresponding sign in Heaven?

How long was Daniel in Babylon?

Daniel 7:1 notes his vision is in the first year of Belshazzar’s reign. Belshazzar ruled Babylon from approximately 550 to 539 BC. If Daniel was brought into Babylon in 605 BC in his late teens. Then he would have lived there for nearly 55 years until King Belshazzar’s reign. Thus, he was already in his 70’s, long enough to fully understand Babylonian cosmology.

Daniel Chapter 7: The Four Winds

² Daniel declared, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. Daniel 7:2, ESV

The four winds of Heaven are often indicative of the four points on a compass: north, south, east, and west1 - or the four cardinal points of the Heavens.

In The Signs of the Four Horsemen, there are also the Four Living Creatures in Revelation 4 that usher in the Four Horsemen, in Revelation 6.

There are also four angelic figures pictured on the mosaic found in a Hebrew synagogue in The Signs of the Four Horsemen.

However, what was the worldview of the Babylonians?

Antonio, a historian, writes,

In Mesopotamian astronomy, the winds’ names could also refer to specific constellations: North Wind is Ursa Major [the Bear], South Wind is Piscis Austrinus [the Southern Fish], West Wind is Scorpio and East Wind is Perseus and the Pleiades [in Taurus].2

Babylon is a city in the region of Mesopotamia where there is the possibility that they associated the four winds with constellations. Therefore, in the interpretation of Daniel 7, we could extrapolate this celestial imagery further. Let’s look at the Babylonian worldview of the sea.

Out of the Sea

³ And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another. Daniel 7:3, ESV

In some commentaries the sea represents people or chaos. For example Faith Life Study Bible states, “the great sea… is often used throughout the Hebrew Bible as a symbol of turmoil and chaos.”3 Another Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible states that the “world powers rise out of the agitations of the political sea (Jeremiah 46:7, 8; Luke 21:25; compare Revelation 13:1; 17:15; 21:1)… or the Mediterranean” sea.4

Both commentaries were written in the last few decades and interpret the sea as symbolic to chaos, politics, or literally the Mediterranean sea. Geographically, there were no great seas around Babylon. Mesopotamia has the Euphrates and the Tigris Rivers. Therefore, these interpretations are Earth-bound or symbolic.

What is the celestial sea?

Earth Sky’s Deborah Byrd writes,

Other constellations in the celestial sea (looking west to east) include Capricornus the Sea Goat, Delphinus the Dolphin, Aquarius the Water Bearer, Pisces the Fish, Cetus the Whale and Eridanus the River. And Fomalhaut is located in the constellation Piscis Austrinus the Southern Fish: another swimmer in the celestial ocean.

No matter where you are on Earth, you need a very dark sky, a couple of hours after sunset, to see the constellations of the heavenly sea.5

A celestial sea is portrayed by the water and ocean related constellations and the names of the stars. However, there is more than just this portion of sky.

What if the entire Heavens was a celestial ocean?

Ira Spar, published “Mesopotamian Creation Myths” for The Met,

The short tale “Marduk, Creator of the World” is another Babylonian narrative that opens with the existence of the sea before any act of creation. First to be created are the cities, Eridu and Babylon, and the temple Esagil is founded. Then the earth is created by heaping dirt upon a raft in the primeval waters.6

The Babylonians and many ancient cultures believed in a cosmic freshwater ocean7 located above a solid layer, the firmament, that was a barrier between the cosmic ocean and the inner breathable air.8 The cosmic ocean is where the gods lived. This belief was dominant during the time of Daniel in Babylon.

This ancient cosmology may have also carried forward to John and the Book of Revelation. There is a footnote in the English Standard Version of Daniel 7:3, where the beasts “came up out of the sea”. The note references the Book of Revelation Chapter 13, which also refers to the '‘beast rising out of the sea”, Revelation 13:1, ESV9. The Beasts in Daniel are related to the Revelation Beast of the Sea which has been correlated to an abusive multi-national government and also related to the constellation Cetus the sea monster (reference The Signs of Jonah).

Therefore, in the ancient cosmic view, the word sea, (Strong’s Concordance 3221. יָם yâm, Chaldean, yawm; corresponding to 3220:—sea10 ) could very well be the Heavenly Mazzaroth, a celestial sea - a great sea.

Who can bring forth the Mazzaroth?

Only God the Creator can bring forth the constellations (Job 38:32), from the celestial sea. Let’s continue the analysis of Daniel 7 with the first beast.

Lion with Eagle’s Wings

⁴ The first was like a lion and had eagles’ wings. Daniel 7:4, ESV

Daniel’s vision of a winged lion is not new to the eyes of the citizens of Babylon. Here are two artifacts of winged lions. The first is a Winged Lion found on a Babylon Gate Relief in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France. Its wings are feathered up like they are on display similar to an angry rooster or eagle in flight.

The second is pictured in The Met article, “Panel with striding lion”, Babylonian - ca. 604–562 BC. Its feathered wings are not as obvious, they seem to be resting on the sides of the lion. The Met describes the artifact to give us more context,

The Assyrian Empire fell before the combined onslaughts of Babylonians and Medes in 614 and 612 B.C. In the empire's final days, Nabopolassar (r. 625–605 B.C.), who had been in Assyrian service, established a new dynasty with its capital in Babylon. During the reign of his son, Nebuchadnezzar II (r. 604–562 B.C.), the Neo-Babylonian empire reached its peak. This was largely attributable to Nebuchadnezzar's ability as a statesman and general. He maintained friendly relations with the Medes in the east while vying successfully with Egypt for the control of trade on the eastern Mediterranean coast. He is well known as the biblical conqueror who deported the Jews to Babylon after the capture of Jerusalem.

During this period Babylon became the city of splendor described by Herodotus and the Old Testament Book of Daniel. Because stone is rare in southern Mesopotamia, molded glazed bricks were used for building and Babylon became a city of brilliant color. Relief figures in white, black, blue, red, and yellow decorated the city's gates and buildings.

The most important street in Babylon was the Processional Way, leading from the inner city through the Ishtar Gate to the Bit Akitu, or "House of the New Year's Festival." The Ishtar Gate, built by Nebuchadnezzar II, was a glazed-brick structure12

The lion with wings was used as an image of royalty to honor the king.

Correlating the Winged Lion to the Sign of Leo

In 2007, Gavin White published the Babylonian Star-lore, An Illustrated Guide to the Star-lore and Constellations of Ancient Babylonia. Thanks to his efforts he illustrated the full planisphere of Babylonian constellations and highlighted below is the Lion, Leo, above the Serpent, Hydra, near the crab, Cancer. Notice the drawing of the Lion includes the wings on its side similar to the lion on the Ishtar Gate, with feathered wings on its side.

We can link the four winds, the celestial sea, and the winged lion with the Signs in Heaven.

Also the “eagles wings” phrase can be found in Revelation 12 where the woman was given eagles wings (Revelation 12:14). Aquila the eagle constellation has been associated with the Fourth Living Creature in Revelation 4 and 6 (see The Signs of the Four Horsemen).

Wings Plucked and Stood as a Man

Then as I looked its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and the mind [or heart] of a man was given to it.

Daniel 7:4, ESV15

In reviewing scholarly commentaries, the interpretation of this portion of the story focuses on the ruler in Babylon. Later the interpretation is given to Daniel that,

¹⁷ ‘These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth.

Daniel 7:17, ESV16

The Faithlife Study Bible suggests “wings were plucked off” is “perhaps a reference to Nebuchadnezzar’s humiliation, punishment, and restoration” in Daniel 4:28–33, 36–37.17

However, this was prior to the reign of Belshazzar who ruled Babylon from approximately 550 to 539 BC. Nebuchadnezzar II reigned from 604 to 562 B.C. So it doesn’t seem like this vision of a winged lion would be associated with something that occurred ~12 years prior. I’m not sure a prophecy would telescope back in time.

This is where the interpretation may vary, for “plucked off” is Strong’s Concordance 4804, which corresponds to 4803 mâraṭ, and can also be translated as “fallen off”. So the wings may have fallen off as the lion was lifted up to stand and think like a man, or have a heart like a man. A lion with a heart like a man - a heart of a lion.

It does not specify in this verse whether it is a good or bad heart. Some allude back to Daniel 4. However, the hypotheses presented earlier will be applied here as referring to a celestial heart.

Where have we seen signs pointing to the heart of the lion? Did Babylonians understand the meaning of Regulus?

The Heart of the Lion

The following Babylonian clay tablet is another gold mine discovery.

In the Babylonian MUL.APIN, Regulus is listed as Lugal, meaning king, with co-descriptor, "star of the Lion's breast".18

MUL.APIN is the oldest known astronomy book in human history. Written in ancient Mesopotamia (around 1000 BC) on two clay tablets, it is effectively a "celestial almanac" that tracked the stars and mapped the night sky. 19

Regulus is the “heart of the Lion” denoting “king” or “prince”. It also has been translated as “treading underfoot” as it is above the lion’s paw that is striking the head of the serpent Hydra.20

Could Daniel’s vision be alluding to a future Heavenly sign in the lion? An end-times sign? A sign of a crowning conjunction or eclipse of Regulus.

I’ll let you explore the solar eclipse sign in the app. Shown below is the “Crowning Lion of Judah Solar Eclipse”, August 21st, 2017, which was just 33 days before the September 23rd, 2017, Revelation 12 Sign in Heaven. Then review the Star of Bethlehem. Given Daniel notes this is at the end, I personally think 2017 is a strong candidate.

In Closing

• What were the four winds and the sea in Chapter 7?

  • Using a Mesopotamian worldview, there is the possibility that they associated the four winds with constellations.

  • In the ancient cosmic view, the word sea could very well be the Heavenly Mazzaroth. If so, Daniel had a vision of beasts emerging from the Signs in Heaven.

• What does the first beast symbolize?

  • A winged Babylonian lion representing a king

• Is there a corresponding sign in Heaven?

  • The primary Zodiac sign is Leo the Lion and the heart of the Lion, Regulus.

  • The actual planetary conjunction or solar eclipse which would point to a prophetic event is dependent upon the prophetic horizon. Through prophetic telescoping, it could be related to a sign in Leo near Regulus signifying great political change through a rising leader.

Introduction

Daniel has a vantage point in history as a captive in the foreign land of Babylon (c 605 BC). As we researched in previous articles, Daniel did not comply when rulers mandated worship of images and pagan gods. Daniel stood firm and became a leader. Daniel only worshiped God of Heaven and Earth.

In Daniel Chapter 2, under the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel interprets the dream of the image of multiple metals and he is rewarded (to be further analyzed in the future).

Then the king [Nebuchadnezzar] gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

Daniel 2:48, ESV1

Daniel may have instructed the Chaldeans in Babylon on the prophecy of the celestial sign, and to watch for this sign, fourteen generations before the Birth of Jesus Christ (See The Signs of Immanuel).

This was before the Medo-Persians (550 BC to 330 BC), Greeks (338 BC to 30 BC), and Greco-Romans (27 BC to 395 AD). Empires rose and fell through his visions of images and beasts.

The research in this series seeks to investigate the Beasts in Daniel’s visions. In the Book of Daniel, Chapters 7 and 8, there are six beasts.

• What is the meaning of prophetic horizon and telescoping?

• Who are the beasts?

• Do the beasts represent end-times nations?

Why is this important? What is the Hypothesis? After researching these questions and more, one may conclude the following.

But he [Gabriel] said to me [Daniel], “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.”

Daniel 8:17, ESV [Daniel 8;19; ch. 11:27, 35, 40; 12:4, 9]2

“Time of the end” - What end? What is the timeline and outer boundaries of the prophecy?

Preliminary research has revealed some very compelling correlations which build upon the studies of the Revelation 12 signs and related material. It is an intricate web of apocalyptic imagery which naturally fits well into the Signs in Heaven. Daniel and John both seem to be communicating similar prophecies. First let’s discuss two terms which may be helpful with this research: prophetic horizon and prophetic telescoping.

Prophetic Horizon

The term prophetic horizon can be applied to the interpretations of each of Daniel’s visions.

Scholars attempt to interpret the outer bounds of the timeframe relative to their understanding of history and their views of eschatology, the study of end-times.

In reviewing various commentaries, the interpretation of a prophecy is based on one’s vantage point on the timeline. When did the researcher live on the timeline? What was their worldview? Who was the ruler at the time? Older commentaries may interpret a prophecy differently from more recent commentaries. Some interpreters may not have experienced certain events. Some may not have technology or software to aid in the analysis. Some signs and markers in the timeline may not have occurred. Once one experiences a compelling sign, one becomes more certain where one is on the timeline, especially if it is a Sign in Heaven.

Many prophecies have been fulfilled, such as the Covenants (see The Covenant Signs), and the Birth, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Jesus (see The Signs of Immanuel). Old Testament prophecies of the Birth of Jesus, have been fulfilled.

However, the Revelation of Jesus Christ, has multiple interpretations (i.e.: idealist, historicist, preterist, and futurist; a-millennial, post-millennial, pre-millennial; pre-tribulation, post-tribulation, pre-wrath, etc.). Each interpretation will influence the commentary which further influences the teachers of the churches.

Similarly, in the Book of Daniel, prophecies potentially span empires and can be correlated to events in the past and present, depending upon one’s view of eschatology.

The Sixth Seal Signs, The Signs of the Four Horsemen, and The Signs of Jonah research the Signs in Heaven that correlate to scripture, which describe the Revelation 12:1-2 Sign, the great Sign in Heaven of the woman, on September 23rd, 2017. (See the Signs in Heaven App to analyze the Revelation 12 Sign).

Prophetic Telescoping

Prophetic telescoping is a term that can also be applied to this study. While the prophetic horizon is the boundary of when a prophecy comes to pass, the prophetic telescoping unveils new horizons. Daniel gives multiple end-to-end prophetic stories, which may have multiple sections or intervals which are told as a single composite storyline.

Logos states the following,

Telescoping, in biblical studies, refers to a narrative or interpretive technique where events, periods, or perspectives from different times are compressed or layered into a single framework, often blurring chronological distinctions to emphasize theological or thematic unity. It’s common in apocalyptic literature (e.g., Revelation) and genealogies, where vast spans of time are condensed to highlight a larger story or divine purpose.3

Key takeaways from the Logos article are that this is an interpretive technique where periods from different times are compressed into say a single story. Here is another way to define the term.

For example, in Daniel Chapter 7, there are multiple beasts correlated to time intervals that may span centuries. The telescope allows us to zoom in from one “horizon” to the next “horizon” across centuries. The telescope also gets better over the centuries, allowing the viewer to see things with more clarity.

For example, in the past we would use a Polaroid camera with a fuzzy resolution, while today we can use a Nikon Coolpix P1000 and zoom in beyond the previous resolution to the next horizon with much more clarity. New discoveries are made. New revelations are unveiled.

This is basically what is happening as time moves from one generation to the next. Our perspective changes. Our technology changes, such as Stellarium software, which allows us to analyze signs in any time period with exceptional resolution, thus unveiling what was not known before.

For example, from The Signs of Immanuel and recent articles, there has been a correlation made between the Gemini spiritual warfare sign during the first Passion Week with the Two Witnesses in the Book of Revelation. This would not have been possible without software like Stellarium.

Knowledge will increase (Daniel 12). AI Large Language Models abound. However, even with AI, we need to be discerning, for even though AI can quickly process data, I find it still requires our discernment and wisdom to assess the truth.

Let’s review the following summaries of the Daniel 7 and 8 Beasts.

Daniel Chapter 7: The Four Great Beasts

Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. Then he wrote down the dream and told the sum of the matter.

Daniel 7:1, ESV4

Daniel has an apocalyptic vision of four distinct beasts rising from a chaotic sea. Scholars have interpreted each beast as representing consecutive historical world empires (Daniel 7:1-28).

• The Lion with Eagle’s Wings: Representing the Babylonian Empire (Daniel 7:4).

• The Bear: Resembling a bear with three ribs in its mouth, representing the Medo-Persian Empire (Daniel 7:5).

• The Leopard with Four Wings and Four Heads: Representing the swift conquests of the Greek Empire (Daniel 7:6).

• The Terrifying Fourth Beast: A dreadful beast with large iron teeth, bronze claws, and ten horns (Daniel 7:7). A “little horn” rises among them to speak (Daniel 7:8). This beast is historically associated with the Roman Empire and end-times prophecy. There are parallels here with the Book of Revelation, especially with Revelation, Chapter 12, to be analyzed.

Daniel then describes the reign of the Ancient of Days, God, where the Fourth Beast is killed and burned with fire. The dominion of the first three beasts was taken away from them, and their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

Daniel Chapter 8: The Ram and the Goat

Daniel receives another vision featuring symbolic animals (Daniel 8:1-27).

• The Two-Horned Ram: A powerful beast charging west, north, and south, explicitly defined by the angel Gabriel as the Kings of Media and Persia (Daniel 8:3-4, 8:20).

• The One-Horned Male Goat: A swift goat charging from the west that completely tramples the ram, representing the King of Greece, with the large horn symbolizing its first major king, Alexander the Great (Daniel 8:5-7, 8:21).

Daniel Chapter 4: Nebuchadnezzar’s Punishment

While not an apocalyptic monster like the others, this chapter describes King Nebuchadnezzar being driven away from human society to live, eat grass, and behave like a wild beast for seven years due to his arrogance, until his sanity is restored (Daniel 4:1-37).

In Closing

• What is the meaning of prophetic horizon and telescoping?

  • Both prophetic horizon and prophetic telescoping are interpretation techniques. One looks at the boundary of the timeline for when the prophecy is fulfilled, the other is the process of unveiling each section in stages or intervals of time, as one may research or look back on events and Signs in Heaven.

• Who are the beasts?

  • A lion, bear, leopard, and dragon like beast in Chapter 7

  • A goat and ram in Chapter 8

  • All represent empires which will be analyzed

• Do the beasts represent end-times nations?

  • Yes and No

  • This will be studied in this series as some of the beasts represent empires that have fallen. Others like the dragon are still roaming the Earth. More will come on the goat and the ram as the research is forming.

The Second Horseman Sign in Heaven - 大火

There is a Sign in Scorpius the Second Horseman when the WHO and CCP met in Wuhan, January 28th, 2020 and assessed the battle against COVID-19. A new kind of war began.

On January 28th, 2020, Mars aligns with Antares, the heart of the Scorpion. The Second Horse is fiery-red, which is also the same description as the fiery-red dragon of Revelation 12. Fiery-red is also the description of Mars and Antares.

Jupiter and Saturn are in Sagittarius, the First Horseman with a bow and crown.

A Press Release is issued where the WHO and China leaders discuss the next steps in the battle against the coronavirus outbreak. More details will be provided in this timeline in future articles.

When Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars align, it correlates to spiritual war. Given that Mars and Antares are both fiery-red and also associated with war, this alignment may be correlated to a Fifth Generation War (5GW) or Unrestricted War, which equates to biowarfare and psychological warfare.

Scorpius also has many fiery-red nebulae which are identified in the book (See Chapter 2), and also has a hooked tail recognized as the war weapon used by the god Maui. The Second Horseman is given a machaira, a short, curved sword used by cavalry. Furthermore, Scorpius has a stinger very similar to a hypodermic needle.

Probability of A Spiritual Warfare Sign

The probability of this can be conservatively calculated using 1/12 for each planet in a primary Zodiac sign.

In calculating the probability of Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars aligning, each travels through 12 Zodiac signs. After researching probability, the speed is not necessarily factored into the calculation. Note in the past, I used “years of travel” around the ecliptic as a denominator in the probability calculations, I have been corrected to think of it as a slot machine with three spinners of 12 objects each. Here is a conservative estimate.

So for the Second Horseman Alignment that is portrayed on January 28th, 2020, the probability is 0.0005787, a relatively rare occurrence.

Now there are three alignments:

1. Saturn-Jupiter-Mars on January 28th, 2020 in Sagittarius and Scorpius, the First and Second Horsemen - the WHO and CCP discuss the battle against COVID-19 in Wuhan.

2. Saturn-Jupiter-Mars on March 11th, 2020 in Sagittarius, the First Horseman - the WHO declares COVID-19 a global pandemic.

3. Mars-Saturn-Jupiter on April 7th, 2020 in Capricornus the Fourth Horseman - the WHO discourages all faith-based gatherings.

All three alignments correlate exactly with World Health Organization press releases of significance.

So what is the total probability of three alignments?

This number does not factor in the probability of the WHO press releases, only the fact that the three planets did align in three constellations. Also the probability calculation does not factor in the probability of correlating the Signs in Heaven with Revelation Chapter 6.

These alignments of spiritual warfare align in not just one but three constellations exactly as described in the Book of Revelation Chapter 6, which is mathematically impossible.

There are no coincidences.

Why “SignsInHeaven.com”?

I’ve been working with founded by who has a passion for helping Christian authors, like me, in launching books and getting more eyes on our content.

Substack gives us the ability to setup a URL domain and it is linked back to our substack. This improves our Google Search Engine Optimization, which increases search ranking.

I have been writing under the Ephesians610.substack.com sub domain since December 2021. There are now 284 published articles, not counting this one. At first it was launched as a way for me to put on the Full Armor of God and research topics which were not talked about in church or in media. I closed my first article with the following statement.

Here is my first post:

At that time, in 2021, many friends and extended family members were still caught up by media, mandates, and mass formation. It drove me to read the Bible more and to investigate the Book of Revelation, specifically Chapters 12 and 13.

This led to leading a small group at church. One member in the group handed me a stack of papers on the Mazzaroth. You can find them here. I filed them away for a year as I led a small group on Revelation and the Seven Churches, Chapters 2 and 3.

I then decided to tackle the Mazzaroth, the Signs in Heaven. When you lead a small group, it forces you to study consistently, for you need to lead each week, no matter the size of your group. I highly recommend this practice. I had to step out of my comfort zone, but it has changed my life and so many around me. I have had the opportunity to face the loss of a member, hardships, and build up great relationships.

Since then I’ve completed a Certificate in Biblical Studies and History.

Most recently, I presented the Signs in Heaven research to a small group. Tears flowed from one new member.

“I wasn’t as excited in reading the Bible but after seeing the Signs in Heaven, it has changed how I study the Bible.”

I replied,

“Exactly!”

You see the Bible in a whole new light, through the lens of the Mazzaroth. God’s Signs in Heaven are a great clock and He is busy. It’s fully strengthened my faith and worship has not been the same.

The research on Bible Prophecy went from The Sixth Seal Signs in Revelation Chapter 6 and rapidly shifted to the Mazzaroth with the writing of The Covenant Signs, which spanned the entire Bible. This led to a total of five books in The Signs Series with two more in the works.

SignsInHeaven.com has been selected for the following reasons:

• Spiritual Realm and Non-Physical: The Signs in Heaven correlate with events on Earth which are happening in the spiritual realm. Heaven and Earth are supernaturally connected. Heaven is the dwelling place of God. God and His angels are battling Spiritual Forces of Evil in Heavenly Places. It implies the signs are taking place in a dimension hidden from human eyes, yet we see it overflowing upon mankind.

• Revelation Chapter 12: There are two Signs in Heaven described explicitly in the beginning of Revelation Chapter 12. These two verses are where the research all started.

Watchmen on the Wall - Blow the Trumpet

The word of the Lord came to me: ² “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, ³ and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, ⁴ then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

Ezekiel 33:1-4, ESV1

This verse has been a call to action for me personally. Next to Ephesians 6 and the Armor of God, the Ezekiel 33 call to action for watchmen is sobering, especially the following.

⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. ⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

Ezekiel 33:5-6, ESV2

I believe the Horsemen are riding, the bow, toxic arrows, and swords are clashing. We are battling the unseen realm. I’m personally convicted in blowing the trumpet. Therefore, the rebranding of this Substack to Signs in Heaven and the free offers to have each and every one of you become watchmen in spreading the Good News that the Signs in Heaven are lining up with events on Earth.

Why the Four Horsemen?

The Faithlife Study Bible states the following about the Four Horsemen. The death, injury, and destruction of the judgments unfolding on Earth are difficult to grasp and comprehend, but “rather than bringing about total destruction, these judgments serve to call people to repentance.”

God wants those who follow the commands of Jesus Christ to persevere and overcome. He wants mankind to turn away from their wicked ways - to repent and hold fast until the end of the age. In summary, here are the Four Horsemen from Revelation 6:1-8.

The Sign of the First Horseman?

“Come!” ² And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer. Rev 6:2, ESV

On March 11th, 2020, when the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic to all tongues, tribes, and nations, there was a rare alignment in the Heavens, in the sign of Sagittarius. Mazzaroth is the Hebrew name for constellation(s) as mentioned in the oldest book of the Bible, the Book of Job (Job 38:32), to be covered in this book. The Mazzaroth signs should not be confused with horoscopes or modern-day Astrology. Signs and seasons will be elaborated in this book from a Biblical worldview.

This alignment continued through to March 15th, 2020, when the United States began lockdowns to stop the spread. This sign is shown where Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars are aligned with the star Nunki at the arm of Sagittarius. Nunki has been translated as “Prince of the Earth”, known as Satan. When Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars align, it is a sign of spiritual warfare.

On September 11th, 3 BC, a virgin woman is clothed with the sun, the moon at her feet. Two wandering stars (Mercury and Venus) orbit down from Leo to her head. Jupiter is crowning Regulus, the little king, in retrograde motion. Thus, the King Planet, “His Star”, is crowning the little king, in the Lion of Judah. The new moon near her feet is not visible, but the position is located in Figure 8.7.2.

This week we will continue to research the Prophecy of Daniel.

Introduction

This research article will further analyze Daniel’s 70-week prophecy as it pertains to the meaning of the “Anointed One”.

• Who is the “Anointed One”?

• What does the “Anointed One cut off” mean?

• What signs were in the Heavens?

If there are signs in Heaven that corroborate the dates derived from Daniel’s 70-week prophecy, would this provide more evidence of the “fingerprints of God’s divine plan”?

Reviewing Daniel and the 70 Weeks Prophecy

In approximately 605 BC, Daniel was taken captive to Babylon. The Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem between 587 and 586 BC.

Daniel is given a gift of prophecy. He interpreted dreams. He becomes an advisor to Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon, Belshazzar of Babylon, Darius the Mede, and Cyrus the Great of Persia.

In Chapter 9, Daniel has a vision while under the first year of Darius, son of Xerxes, who had been made ruler over Chaldea. The year is most likely 539 BC or 538 BC. In the Annals of the World, by Archbishop James Ussher, the later date of 538 BC is cited.

Daniel begins to describe a future vision, nearly a century later, where Jerusalem is rebuilt. Scholars believe this future date is March 5th, 444 BC, when Nehemiah returns to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Note: Later this date can be analyzed in Stellarium.

Let’s review Daniel 9:23-27.

Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision.

The Seventy Weeks

²⁴ “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.

Daniel describes a vision with

• an “end to sin”,

• an “atonement for iniquity”, and

• “everlasting righteousness”.

Prophets like Samuel anointed David with oil, who then became the King of Israel, but who can bring an “end to sin” and bring in “everlasting righteousness”? Jesus would come from the Line of David, the Line of Judah, and the Lion of Judah.

Verse 24 ends with “to anoint a most holy place”, and there is a footnote to clarify that it can also be interpreted as “most holy one, or thing”. So, the “everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet” could involve the anointing of a place and/or people once all 70 weeks are complete. Let’s look again at the 70 weeks.

In a previous article, the following calculations were introduced. Scholars believe Daniel used a week of 7 days to represent 7 years.

70 weeks = 70 x 7 days = 490 days; therefore 490 years.

Per Daniel, it will take 490 years in total for the prophecy to be fulfilled. There is debate over whether this is a consecutive 490 years. Some have broken up the total years to be 483 years + a final 7 years in the end times. Let’s first look at the initial 483 years. Then, based upon the historical timeline and Events on Earth, we can look at the final 7 years in a future research article.

²⁵ Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. And for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.

The “word to restore and build Jerusalem” is a time recorded in history. It can be traced back to Nehemiah, the cupbearer of the Persian King Artaxerxes, on March 5th, 444 BC.

March 5th, 444 BC Sign of Spiritual Warfare

Nehemiah was a leader who went back to Jerusalem to restore and rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem. He faced the following challenges, including ridicule (Nehemiah 2:9, 4:1-3), wrath (4:1, 6-9), discouragement (4:10), fear (4:11-23), internal strife (5:1-5), laziness (4:10), Satanic trickery (6:1-8), and false prophets (6:10-14).1 Satan did not want Nehemiah to succeed.

When one looks up March 5th, 444 BC, a sign appears in Taurus the Bull. Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter are aligned in Taurus. When these three planets align, it symbolizes Spiritual Warfare. Saturn correlates to Satan, Mars to war, and Jupiter to “His Star”, the King Planet that the wise men saw at the birth of Jesus Christ on September 11th, 3 BC (See The Signs of Immanuel). A crescent new moon is positioned near Jupiter. This is the first day of Nisan 3317, the beginning of the Jewish Calendar according to the Torah. Saturn is near the brightest star in Taurus, Aldebarran, which denotes governor, chief, or leader.3 On this day, there is a decree to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2). Nehemiah became a leader for the people to rebuild Jerusalem and returned to be the Governor of Judah.

Therefore, from the rebuilding of Jerusalem (see the Book of Nehemiah), there shall be seven weeks and another sixty-two weeks of construction.

7 weeks + 62 weeks = 69 weeks

69 weeks x 7 days/week = 483 days

483 days = 483 years in this prophecy.

²⁶ And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing.

After the period of 483 years in the prophecy, the anointed one is cut off and shall have nothing. What does this mean?

Hypothesis: One can hypothesize that the Anointed One is Jesus Christ, and being cut off means the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. However, what do other scholars say? What does the original language say?

Who is the Anointed One?

In the New Bible commentary: 21st century edition, published in 1994,

From the perspective of the NT, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the Anointed One (25) is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, whose coming brings atonement and the end of guilt (24).4

The commentary also references the 69 x 7. If this calculation is correct, it brings us to Passion Week in 33 AD, the final days of Jesus Christ, Immanuel, on Earth.

If the Christological analysis is generally correct, the sixty-nine ‘sevens’ may represent the period beyond the restoration until the coming of Christ and the kingdom he inaugurates. 5

“The coming of an anointed one” is shown below in the Logos Software Interlinear view for the English Standard Version (ESV) of Daniel 9:25-26. Strong’s Concordance 4899 is the word for “anointed one”, which is only used twice in the entire book of Daniel. The first use of the word has a footnote ‘r’ to John 1:41.

John 1:41 refers to Jesus Christ as the Messiah.

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ).

The second use of the word “anointed one”, is in Daniel 9:26,

The “anointed one” is מָשִׁיחַ mâshîyach, where Strong’s Concordance 4899 states,

maw-shee´-akh; from 4886; anointed; usually a consecrated person (as a king, priest, or saint); spec. the Messiah:—anointed, Messiah.7

So anointed one can mean a king, a priest, or a saint, but also specifically it can mean the Messiah.

In the New American Standard (NAS), King James Version (KJV), and Biblos Interlinear Bible (INT), Daniel 9:25-26 all use “Messiah” vs. “anointed one”. Biblehub lists these translations,

Daniel 9:25
NAS: until Messiah the Prince
KJV: Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince
INT: Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince weeks

Daniel 9:26
NAS: weeks the Messiah will be cut off
KJV: weeks shall Messiah be cut off,
INT: and two will be cut the Messiah and have the city

Daniel’s 70 Week Prophecy is most likely referring to the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

What does “cut off” mean?

Assuming “Anointed One” is the Messiah, Jesus Christ, let’s study further. In Daniel 9:26, the Messiah shall be “cut off”. In Strong’s Concordance 3772, cut off or karath denotes to cut, cut off, cut down, make a covenant.8 The Lexham Theological Wordbook elaborates upon this idiom, or figurative phrase,

כָרַת (kārat). vb. to cut. Used in the idiom “to cut a covenant” to refer to making a covenant.9

The idiom, “cut off”, is correlated to a covenant agreement. In Genesis 15:7-11, God made a covenant with Abraham by asking him to bring him animals to be cut in half, which became known as a “cutting ceremony”. In Jeremiah 34:18, there is also the “cutting ceremony” which is used in relation to a covenant or promise.

The idiom “to cut (kārat) a covenant (bĕrît; e.g., Jer 34:18)” and Genesis 15 provide details of an ancient Hebrew tradition where each party would then pass between the pieces of an animal cut in half. If the commitments of the covenant (bĕrît, Jer 34:17–20) are broken, the person supposedly suffers the fate of the cut animal. In Genesis 15, a boiling pot or flaming torch symbolizing God’s power, or a celestial sign (possibly a comet). His power passes through the pieces, thereby taking all the curses of the covenant upon Himself.10

The sacrifice of the Passover Lamb is a type of “cutting ceremony” and “blood covenant”. Jesus Christ, the Messiah, is “cut off”, and passes through the cut pieces, taking all the curses or “sins” of the covenant upon Himself. Jesus Christ is the blood covenant.

Blood Covenant and Red Letters

Let’s review some of the actual words of Jesus Christ during Passion Week. Before Good Friday, Jesus gathers with His disciples to have the Last Supper. Here are His words,

Drink of it, all of you, ²⁸ for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Matthew 26:27–2811

On the first Good Friday, April 3rd, 33 AD, after 3:00 p.m., Jesus made seven statements.

Jesus’ first three remarks were made between 9:00 a.m. and noon (Mark 15:25).

1. First, He asked forgiveness for those who crucified Him (Luke 23:34). On the cross Jesus made forgiveness possible not only for those involved in His crucifixion, but also for all who would put their trust in Him.

2. Second, Jesus promised the penitent thief he would meet the Lord in paradise that very day (Luke 23:43), giving us insight into what happens following believers’ deaths.

3. Third, Jesus made provision for the care of His mother by John (John 19:26–27).13

4. Jesus’ last four statements were spoken between noon and 3:00 p.m., the final hours before His death (Matt. 27:45; Mark 15:33; Luke 23:44). His fourth statement was a cry of isolation, quoting Ps. 22:1 in Aramaic (Matt. 27:46; Mark 15:34). This statement arose not so much from His own physical pain, but the anguish of solitarily taking upon Himself the sin of the world.

5. His physical agony is expressed in the fifth statement, when Jesus acknowledged His thirst (John 19:28).

6. After being given a sour drink, Jesus made His sixth statement, “It is finished” (John 19:30), a cry of victory, not defeat. Jesus was not finished, but redemption was complete.

7. In His final words Jesus quoted Ps. 31:5 as He committed His spirit to God (Luke 23:46).14

“It is finished” was a statement of victory, not defeat. The mission of Jesus in “the cutting off covenant” was complete.

Jesus came to labor and suffer, and to be the Ruling Judge, as reflected in another sign in Gemini with two lampstands, two olive trees, two stars above Castor and Pollux.

April 3rd, 33 AD Sign of Spiritual Warfare

In The Signs of Immanuel, Section 13.9 Christ the King,

The night of the Crucifixion and the following night reveal the story of Jesus Christ, the King, in the Mazzaroth.

When Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars are relatively close together, it is a sign of spiritual warfare, noted by Robert Scott Wadsworth, teacher of Biblical Astronomy. The night Jesus is laid in the tomb, Saturn is in Cancer, while Jupiter and Mars are both in Gemini.

Jupiter is in Castor, one of the Gemini twins. Jupiter, His star, is less than three degrees from the star Mebsuta, which denotes treading underfoot. Mars, which denotes war, is also near the star Mebsuta, adding to the spiritual battle between Jesus Christ and Satan. The stars point to the Proevangelium, Genesis 3:15a.15
